The Northwestern Arched Gate
The Northwestern Arched Gate on the Dome of the Rock's platform is one of the three gate located on the west side of the platform. It is located in between the Zawiyah of Khadr and the Sabil of Sha'lan.
It has 4 arches supported by 2 stone columns and 3 marble columns. There are 23 staircases leading up to the arched gate.
It was built during Mamluk era by Sultan al-Ashraf Sha'ban, the son of Sultan Muhmammad ibn Qawalun in 778 H/1376 M. It was renovated in 974 H/1566 M during Sultan Sulayman the Magnificent reign as indicated by the inscription on above the middle column of the arched gate.
