Mihrab of David
Mihrab (prayer niche) is the prayer place in Arabic, and it is the architectural feature of any masjid's front wall (which the Imam faces during the daily prayer). (Hany & Alshawan;2019). The Mihrab of David is the spot in the southern wall of the Aqsa Mosque, where Prophet David A.S. used to worship during his time. It is said that it is a mihrab that is mentioned in Chapter 'Saad' of the Holy Qur'an in which Allah Almighty says: "And has there come to you the news of the adversaries, when they climbed over the wall of [his] prayer chamber" (38:21). It is the place in which Omar ibn Khattab prayed when he entered Al-Aqsa Mosque. It was renovated in the Fatimid and Mamluk Periods during the reign of khalifa Al-Zahir and Sultan Hossam al-Din Lajin respectively. The mihrab is large, wide, deep, and can be seen from afar.
